Commercial Assessment Confidence: Prologue
It was early April, 2022. A long inspection road-trip, save for Easter Sunday morning in New Orleans, had left me sleepy and red-eyed. The drive to Houston lingered, and I had no way of knowing the summit in store for me the next morning.

Rounding the sidewalk at 2500 CityWest Boulevard, the massive, mirror-like curtain wall of windows caught my gaze. A neck isnโ€™t made to stare up at a skyscraper like this, I thought. Why are we here? Can I even handle this?

I wasnโ€™t new to commercial building assessments, but I remembered the first time in 2017 I had climbed small gas station walls in a single-bound, armed with a clipboard, two assistants, and a stomach-full of fear.

I didnโ€™t know it would rear its ugly head again, at the top of 26 stories in Houston.

Working for a big corporate due diligence firm was new to me, and I had to represent my company as though diagnosing an office tower was easy to me. Old hat, no problem.

What follows in this book is what got me there, and kept me going. Thereโ€™s nothing special about learning commercial building assessments but the desire to do so. Thatโ€™s what sets us apart.
